Becoming a Stellar Patent Client

This patent how-to describes how to become a Stellar Patent® client

Table of Contents

1. Initial Consulation

Generally, Stellar Patent® follows the below intake process for new clients. When needed, Stellar Patent® may deviate from this process.

You will have an initial consultation with Stellar Patent® to:

  • Determine if we are a good match to work together.
  • Understand your goals and needs.
  • Establish a budget range for your needs.
  • Develop a timeline.

2. Confilict of Interest Check

When you need Stellar Patent® to represent you on a patent matter, Stellar Patent® will do a conflict of interest check to determine if Stellar Patent® has a conflict of interest with another client matter. If Stellar Patent® has a conflict of interest, Stellar Patent® will not be able to represent you with the specific matter. An example of a conflict of interest could be where your invention is similar to an invention Stellar Patent® has previously drafted a patent application for. In this example, this previous representation of another client could exclude Stellar Patent® from representing you in this matter.

When you do not need representation, such as patent training, a conflict of interest check is not needed.

3. Engagement Letter

After we determine to work together, we will sign a letter of engagement defining our relationship. If you want Stellar Patent® to represent you on a patent matter (e.g., patent preparation or prosecution ), you will fund the legal fees in an escrow account. Stellar Patent® does not represent you until this process is complete.

4. Welcome as Stellar Patent® client.

Stellar Patent® will begin working on your needs based on the timeline we discussed during the initial consultation.

An overview of the services Stellar Patent® provides may be found at patent services.
